Assalamu’alaikum wr. wb.

Since its inception in 2009 until today, the Traditional Textile Arts Society of South East Asia or TTASSEA has reached significant achievements.

TTASSEA’s activities as a civil society, accredited by the ASEAN Secretariat, is imperative to society, especially for students of textiles design, traditional textile artisans, academic textile researchers, textile aficionados of South East Asian traditional textiles, and cultural observers specifically observers of material culture.

The 7th ASEAN Traditional Textile Symposium does not only provide a platform for sharing research and knowledge, but also for renewing and developing friendships as well as academia-business and textile artisan collaborations.

It is in this framework that I highly appreciate the organizing of the 7th International ASEAN Traditional Textile Symposium, which will provide information on sustainable preservation, conservation and innovation of traditional textiles. During this bi-annual symposium, besides presenting more than 20 invited speakers from ASEAN as well as global textile experts, the symposium will also feature an ASEAN textile exhibition, an exhibition on innovations in the Indonesian traditional textile world, a textile photo competition, workshops on batik, natural dyes and fibers, and visits to several textile centers in Yogyakarta.

On behalf of the Symposium Committee, the Special City of Yogyakarta, and all textile aficionados, I warmly welcome you to the 7th ASEAN Traditional Textile Symposium.

Wassalamu’alaikum wr. wb.
